This 55 days FGASA endorsed, CATHSSETA accredited full Apprentice Field Guide course (formerly Field Guide Level 1) is your entry level qualification for field guiding. Once qualified, you as a guide are able to identify and interpret biodiverse elements of the natural environment and conduct game drives in dangerous and non-dangerous game areas for guest.
The syllabus covers a broad spectrum of subjects including animal behaviour, birding, 4x4 game vehicle skills, species identification or tracking - just to name a few.
The course varies between classroom based theory and practical session out in the African bush, the proportions of which depend on the module and course requirements.
There is a maximum of eight participants per course, ensuring personalised attention and first-hand experience for everyone. Creating a comfortable learning environment and a culture of respect and ethics surrounding guiding is important to us!
In order to be able to get your FGASA qualification on this course, you have to:

Be over 18

Be competent in the English language

Have a valid drivers license

Have experience in manual transmission driving

Have valid medical aid

Enjoy a reasonable level of fitness

Have a high level of dedication and be able to successfully self-study
